Location: Chennai, India
GWT is looking for a Mechanical Draughtsman to prepare accurate, standards-compliant mechanical drawings and 3D models for water and wastewater treatment projects.
The role will support engineering, procurement, fabrication, and project execution teams by ensuring drawings are prepared, revised, coordinated, and issued on time to facilitate smooth project delivery and installation activities.
What You'll Do
Mechanical Drafting & Design
- Prepare GA, P&ID, fabrication, assembly, and piping drawings.
- Develop detailed 3D models using AutoCAD Plant 3D and Revit.
- Generate isometric and detailed engineering drawings.
- Ensure drawings are accurate and compliant with project requirements.
- Prepare mechanical engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Develop 3D plant models and equipment layouts.
- Support piping layout and drawing development.
Engineering Support
- Assist Mechanical Engineers in preparing design deliverables.
- Support Material Take-Offs (MTO) and Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Coordinate engineering revisions and design updates.
- Assist with equipment layout optimization.
- Provide drawing clarifications to engineering and site teams.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, and Project teams.
- Work closely with Mechanical Engineers and other disciplines.
- Coordinate with Civil, Electrical, and other departments.
- Participate in project review meetings.
- Coordinate with vendors and installation teams regarding drawing clarifications.
- Ensure drawings are submitted according to project timelines.
Drawing Quality & Revisions
- Review drawings before release.
- Incorporate client and site revisions promptly.
- Maintain compliance with piping and engineering standards.
- Support quality-related drawing corrections.
- Ensure drawing accuracy and consistency across project deliverables.
Technical Documentation
- Maintain drawing registers and revision records.
- Ensure the latest drawing revisions are issued to relevant teams.
- Support the document submission and control process.
- Archive completed project drawings and maintain proper documentation.
Continuous Improvement
- Improve drafting productivity and efficiency.
- Standardize drawing templates and best practices.
- Support digital engineering initiatives.
- Contribute to improved coordination between engineering and project departments.
What We're Looking For
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Additional certification in CAD software is an advantage.
- 3–8 years of experience in Mechanical Drafting.
- Experience in water treatment, wastewater treatment, or EPC projects is preferred.
- Experience with piping systems and process plants.
- Experience using AutoCAD Plant 3D and Revit is essential.
- 3D modelling experience is mandatory.
